DuraRoof Asphalt Shingle Sealer

DuraRoof is a clear acrylic coating that is spray applied to an asphalt shingle roof that forms a barrier to help prevent shingle damage from excessive wind, rain, ultra violet degradation, algae growth, or other naturally occurring disasters such as hurricanes and hail. DuraRoof has been successfully wind tunnel tested to withstand 130+ mph hurricane force winds and rain and has been credited with saving numerous homes by preventing roof damage from natural catastrophes like Hurricanes Francis, Jeanne, Wilma, Katrina, Ivan, and more. Since 1996, over Twenty Million square feet of roof surface has been applied on homes throughout Florida and DuraRoof is the original clear asphalt shingle sealer that is guaranteed to perform. Just one application provides a simple, immediate, and economical method to strengthen both new and older roofs, it dries clear and lasts five years or more.

DuraRoof is a low viscosity formulation that adsorbs into asphalt shingles, wicking under and sealing them along open edges to reduce wind drag and water infiltration. The spray method of applying DuraRoof promotes uniform distribution on the surface which enhances bonding between individual shingles. This method allows it to perform like a fully adhered functional membrane rather than a paint type coating, heavier paints and elastomeric coatings cannot adsorb or wick into the shingle because they have a higher viscosity.

Asphalt shingles are composed of three basic parts, a base material, an asphalt mixture, and a granular surfacing material.

• The base material provides support for the weather-resistant components and gives strength to the shingle.
• The asphalt mixture includes asphalt and mineral stabilizers and is a complex mixture of aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbon compounds.
• The surfacing materials are mineral granules which provide protection from impact, UV degradation, and improve fire resistance.

As asphalt ages, it breaks down and degrades chemically and physically. As this process continues, granule loss accelerates which exposes unprotected asphalt which only increases UV exposure and the rate of degradation and granular loss. The result is shingles are weakened structurally and over time are damaged resulting in roof failure.

DuraRoof increases the lifespan of asphalt shingles in three ways; first by reducing the effects of from UV radiation, second by providing a water-resistant barrier, and third by reducing wind uplift.

• Ultraviolet rays break down asphalt by weakening the adhesive bonds of the hydrocarbons which results in continued loss of mineral granules. DuraRoof adheres existing granular material and prevents further loss.
• DuraRoof provides a water-resistant barrier that eliminates contact of water with the asphalt membrane which eliminates low molecular weight asphalt fractions from leaching out of the asphalt. Additionally, it prevents water from contacting the organic substrate layer that also eliminates ice and freeze thaw damage in colder climates.
• Wind damage is also reduced because DuraRoof can form an in-situ applied monolithic membrane that seals gaps around and between shingles allowing wind to flow over the shingle.

DuraRoof is registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office and is protected under U.S. Patent No. 8,058,342. DuraRoof is the only patented product and process of sealing and application methods for protecting asphalt roof shingles and other porous roofing materials.
